With less than one week until the Nintendo Switch 2 Direct, Nintendo held a Direct for the current Switch. Let’s look at what was shown off and what I thought about the announcements!
// Dragon Quest I & II HD-2D Remake
Release Date:
2025
Platforms:
Nintendo Switch | PS5 | Xbox Series X&S | Steam
Description:
Two tales of brave heroes begin anew. DRAGON QUEST I & II HD-2D Remake is a stunning reimagination of two legendary RPGs continuing the ‘Erdrick Trilogy’, brought together in one package.
My Thoughts:
I’ll likely check this out at some point. I’ve played other Dragon Quest games before and I’m a big fan of RPGs and the 2D art style so this is a no brainer for me.
// No Sleep for Kaname Date – From AI: THE SOMNIUM FILES
Release Date:
July 25, 2024
Platforms:
Nintendo Switch | Steam
Description:
The player takes on the role of Kaname Date, the protagonist, and once again teams up with the AI-Ball, Aiba, to tackle a mysterious case and rescue Iris, an internet idol who has been forced to take part in a dangerous escape game. No Sleep For Kaname Date – From AI: THE SOMNIUM FILES introduces a new gameplay element: “Escape”. As with previous games, in “Investigation”, players will examine crime scenes and listen to testimonies. In “Somnium”, players enter the dream worlds of suspects and key witnesses. In the new “Escape” sections, players will solve puzzles to break out locked rooms. By moving between these three sections, players can obtain the necessary clues to solve the case. (Source: Spike Chunsoft)
My Thoughts:
I actually own one of these games, but I haven’t played any of them before. Still, something I’ll keep on my radar because it is something I’m likely to play since I’ve started getting into visual novels.
// RAIDOU Remastered: The Mystery of the Souless Army
Release Date:
June 19, 2025
Platforms:
Nintendo Switch | PS4 & PS5 | Xbox One | Xbox Series X&S | Steam
Description:
Undertake the case of the century in this must-play classic from ATLUS. The studio behind Shin Megami Tensei remasters Devil Summoner: Raidou Kuzunoha vs. The Soulless Army with revamped visuals, quality-of-life updates, new voice-overs, and an overhauled battle system!
A young heiress approaches the Narumi Detective Agency with a strange request…to kill her. Without any further explanation, the girl is kidnapped. Apprentice detective Raidou Kuzunoha XIV, who moonlights as a Devil Summoner assigned to protect the Capital, is on the case. Raidou investigates all across the city, which includes entering the Dark Realm—a dangerous juncture between the real world and the netherworld where demons abound.
Become Raidou Kuzunoha and work with your allied demons to unravel the mysteries that block your path. What was once a missing persons matter soon spirals into a conspiracy that will shake not only the Capital, but the entire nation. (Source: Atlus)
Reactions:
I have played so many of Atlus’ games nows, I will absolutely be checking this one out since I haven’t played this one before. I like that the battles are in real time, which is quite different from many of the Atlus games I have played (since many are turned based). It also seems like the negoation system featured in Shin Megami Tensei games as well as Persona 5 is used to convince demons to join your side, which is something I enjoyed doing in the games I played.
// Shadow Labyrinth
Release Date:
July 18, 2025
Platforms:
Nintendo Switch | PS5 | Xbox Series X&S | Steam
Description:
Shadow Labyrinth is a 2D action platformer and a genre-twisting alternate take on the iconic PAC-MAN.
As Swordsman No. 8, awoken by a floating yellow orb, PUCK, on a mysterious planet amidst relics of wars past, you are chosen to become the instrument of its will.
To survive you will discover many secrets, consume your enemies, and grow from prey to the apex predator as you embrace your true purpose. (Source: BANDAI NAMCO)
My Thoughts:
I don’t play platformers so this does nothing for me.
// PATAPON 1 + 2 Replay
Release Date:
July 11, 2025
Platforms:
Nintendo Switch | PS5 | Steam
Description:
A delicate and mysterious species of creatures like an eyeball, the “Patapon” are guided through their adventures by the rhythm of four drums.
There are various classes of “Patapon”, each with distinct roles and combat styles such as the flag-waving “Hatapon” who leads the charge, the shield-bearing “Tatepon” who protects allies, and the bow-wielding “Yumipon” who strikes from afar. Use their traits to form your squad and conquer multiple stages!
As the player, you become the Mighty of the “Patapon”, leading their grand march towards the “Earthend”. (Source: BANDAI NAMCO)
My Thoughts:
I love the PATAPON series. I played them on my PSP back in the day. The art style pops and is so nice on the eyes and I cannot get enough of the way the Patapon sound. PATA PATA PATA PON, indeed. Rhythm games usually aren’t my thing, but PATAPON is the exception. I cannot wait to play this when it releases in July!
// Story of Seasons: Grand Bazaar
Release Date:
August 27, 2025
Platforms:
Nintendo Switch
Description:
The winds of change bring you to the breezy hills of Zephyr Town. Rebuild your farm from humble beginnings and breathe new life into the town’s once-famous bazaar. Set up your stall to sell produce and goods, and meet charming townsfolk to befriend and romance as you help the community thrive. (Source: YouTube)
Reactions:
YESSSS!! The GOAT of farming sims is here! Story of Seasons (originally Harvest Moon) was what kicked off my farming sim obsession and Grand Bazaar is one of my favourites from the DS era. I loved that you not only took care of a farm but you also sold your produce at the bazaar, instead of just dropping it in the shipping bin. It just gave the series another fun thing you could do. And of course I’m excited to re-meet the cast of characters you can date. I also hear there will be new townsfolk too.
I definitely will be picking this one up come release.
// Metroid Prime 4: Beyond
Release Date:
2025
Platforms:
Nintendo Switch
Description:
Harness Samus Aran’s new psychic abilities to survive the mysterious planet of Viewros and find a way home when Metroid Prime 4: Beyond comes to Nintendo Switch in 2025. (Source: Nintendo of America’s YouTube)
Thoughts:
I’ve never played any of the Metroid games so I’m nowhere near excited as fans are. I can’t say I’m excited at all. I do hope it’s good though–fans have been waiting for a long time for this, and they deserve that.
// Disney Villains Cursed Café
Release Date:
March 27, 2025 (Today!)
Platforms:
Nintendo Switch | PS5 | Xbox Series X&S | Steam | GOG
Description:
Disney Villains Cursed Café is a new visual novel where every magical potion sparks unexpected twists. As the newest Potionista of this mysterious café, you’ll craft magical blends for reimagined villains—Cruella de Vil, The Evil Queen, Gaston, Captain Hook, Jafar, Maleficent, and Ursula—each chasing new modern ambitions.
Your choices shape their story as you ponder on which potion to serve, deciding whether to give them what they want, or a taste of what they truly need. With help from Yzma and your potion book, uncover new enchanted ingredients and recipes, as you work to uncover the mystery of this peculiar café. With stunning artwork, immersive storytelling, and a dash of alchemy, a spellbinding experience awaits. (Source: Disney)
My Thoughts:
I dig the art style, the featured characters (love me some Disney villains) and like I said with the new AI SOMNIUM FILES game, I also do enjoy visual novels. So yeah, I’ll probably check this out, especially because it’s got a pretty decent price point, coming in at $19.99 CAD.
It also seems like café games are very in now??
// Witchbrook
Release Date:
Holiday 2025
Platforms:
Nintendo Switch | Xbox Series X&S | Steam
Description:
Discover magic and mystery in Witchbrook, a spellbinding witch life-sim for up to 4-players! Start your life as the newest resident witch in the bustling seaside city of Mossport. Make friends, find love, and discover a world filled with wonder and charm on the road to graduation and beyond…(Source: Steam)
My Thoughts:
This is another game I’ll definitely be checking out. The multiplayer stuff does nothing for me because I prefer to play games on my own. Despite that, there’s still plenty here for me to get excited about such as the beautiful pixel art style, the fact it’s a life-sim about witches, sounds like there’s even dateable characters.
Witchbrook has many things I look for in a game like this so I’m very excited to check it out when it drops later this year!
// The Eternal Life of Goldman
Release Date:
Holiday 2025
Platforms:
Nintendo Switch | PS5 | Xbox Series X&S | Steam
Description:
The Eternal Life of Goldman is a vibrant yet dark adventure that weaves together legends, fairy tales and myths. It takes the genre at an unusual angle and offers something unexpected at every turn. Upgrade your cane with new parts and unlock new abilities, to explore the hidden corners of the Archipelago and face incredible creatures.
The Eternal Life of Goldman is the result of years of work by people who love and appreciate the same cartoons, comics and games that you do – meticulously drawn, colored and animated by hand using classic frame-by-frame techniques. Every place, every object, every character, every visual effect — everything is carefully planned and executed to the finest detail.
It’s a challenging platformer that demands precision, but it never devolves into a grueling exercise where you have to memorize and methodically execute an exact sequence of actions. It’s a game that encourages exploration and will give you a sense of discovery – But it won’t have you backtracking in confusion after you gain each new ability or artifact. Finally, it’s a game with complex scenes, robust characters and a multi-layered story – but it never gets bogged down in thoughtful poses and feigned pretension. (Source: THQNORDIC)
My Thoughts:
I like that it’s all animated by hand, giving it a hand drawn animation vibe. I just don’t like platformers, so I will not be playing this.
// GRADIUS ORIGINS
Release Date:
August 7, 2025
Platforms:
Nintendo Switch | PS5 | Xbox Series X&S | Steam
Description:
GRADIUS ORIGINS is the definitive collection of the earliest games from the GRADIUS series – 2D shoot ‘em up classics that embody nostalgic gaming from the 1980s.
GRADIUS holds a special place in gaming history – not just for its side-scrolling spacecraft battles, but also for introducing a legendary cheat code. First appearing in the original 1986 Japanese FAMICOM version, the now-iconic code (activated once players pushed the ↑ ↑ ↓ ↓ ← → ← → B A buttons on their controllers) gave players a crucial power-up boost, and would later go on to become a staple in gaming culture. With this new collection, players can relive the challenge of GRADIUS while paying homage to the origins of one of gaming’s most famous secrets.
The collection also introduces Salamander III, a new entry to the franchise in over 15 years. Salamander III’s storyline takes place after the events of the Salamander Wars that played out in Salamander (1986). Bacterian troops once again attack the planet Lattice. Forced to face the enemy amongst the stars, a fighter pilot from Lattice flies off to fight the Salamanders alongside the Big Viper – Type R.
Staying true to the 1990s aesthetics of GRADIUS titles, Salamander III features 2D sprites and backgrounds as players traverse six different stages using power-ups from the Salamander series. (Source: Konami)
My Thoughts:
I’ll be honest, I was on the phone when this trailer dropped in the Direct so I kind of missed it live. But I’ve also never heard of this series before and when grabbing the video for this article, it doesn’t look like something I’d play anyway. I’m not a fan of side-scroller shoot-em-ups. I’m sure someone is excited for this, so happy for you at least!
// Rift of the NecroDancer
Release Date:
March 27, 2025 (Today!) For the Nintendo Switch

Face pulse-pounding Rhythm Rifts, epic boss battles, & quirky minigames, all set to a new soundtrack by Danny Baranowsky & friends. (Source: Brace Yourself Games)
My Thoughts:
Not something I’d play personally as this isn’t my kind of rhythm game, but you don’t need my take when fellow writer 2R can give you the down-low as he has played it!
// Tamagotchi Plaza
Release Date:
June 27, 2025

(Source: BANDAI NAMCO)
My Thoughts:
I’ve never actually played any of the Tamagotchi games but I owned the virtual pets when I was a kid. To me, it just sounds like this is a cozy game with Tamagotchi, and that catches my interest. I’ll keep it on my radar for now!
// Pokémon Legends Z-A
Release Date:
Later 2025
Platforms:
Nintendo Switch
Description:
Welcome to Lumiose City, where skilled Trainers participate in the Z-A Royale, a tournament where you’ll rank up via unique new Pokémon battles that happen in real time and can feature Mega Evolutions! (Source: Nintendo’s YouTube)
My Thoughts:
Myself, 2R and NotAnAccountant all reacted to the trailer shown off for Legends Z-A in the Pokemon Presents last month, which you can check out here.
This trailer shown off today, however, was brand new and gave us some new information. Trainer battles are making a return in the Legends series! I personally didn’t miss them in Arceus as I’m not a big battle–I prefer catching, raising and battling Pokémon over trainer battles. Nevertheless, I’ll still probably check this out anyway simply because it seems fun. Who doesn’t love a good tournament arc??
I’m very happy we’re getting more and more info on Legends Z-A! Hopefully we get a release date soon as I cannot wait to get my hands on this one.
// Rhythm Heaven Groove
Release Date:
2026
Platforms:
Nintendo Switch
Description:
Get into the groove with the newest entry in the Rhythm Heaven series, Rhythm Heaven Groove! (Source: Nintendo’s YouTube)
My Thoughts:
I’ve never played any of the Rhythm Heaven games so this doesn’t interest me all that much. When doing some research for this article, I saw the last game in the series dropped in 2016 on the 3DS, so it’s certainly been quite some time since a new game. I’m happy for those who are happy for the new entry!
// Virtual Game Card
Release Date:
Late April 2025
Platforms:
Nintendo Switch
Description:
Introducing the virtual game card – a new feature for easily managing purchased digital games, playing games on two different systems, and even lending or borrowing games. Similar in concept to moving physical game cards between systems, virtual game cards make it possible to “eject” a purchased digital title from one Nintendo Switch system and “load” it onto another – whether it belongs to a member of the same Nintendo Account family group, or a second system tied to your account. This optional feature allows you to view virtual game cards or eject them from your system. The digital game can also be lent to a Nintendo Account family group member’s system via local wireless connection. Games that you lend can then be played on a Nintendo Account family group member’s system for two weeks, after which the game will be automatically returned to you. This feature will be available on Nintendo Switch starting late April via a hardware system update. Additionally, virtual game cards will also work with Nintendo Switch 2 systems at launch. (Source: Nintendo)
My Thoughts:
This is actually a pretty big deal. It’s been very frustrating up until now sharing digital games with family. I’d end up buying both a digital copy and a physical copy. Now, if you both want to play at the same time, it still sounds like that’s something you’ll have to do, but if it’s a game you’ve finished playing and someone else in your household wants to play it, you can very easily share the digital copy with them with this new system.
And even if you don’t have someone to share games with, but you’re someone who has multiple systems (like an OLED and a Lite), you’ll now be able to load the digital game from your OLED to your Lite or vice versa (or whatever two systems you have).
It’s very encouraging Nintendo is future proofing their systems like this. I feel like many of us would have appreciated this system earlier in the Switch’s lifecycle but later is better than never.
Can’t wait to check it out come late April!

Nintendo Switch

Travel to a variety of biomes and locations across the cosmos, go up against the nefarious Garmantuous and his gang of goons, collect loot, meet unique characters, and more, in the latest comedy adventure from Squanch Games! (Source: Steam)
My Thoughts:
Uh, hard pass. Not for me–just don’t vibe with it. It doesn’t really have to do with the genre or anything, it’s more the vibe of the game. Even the trailer just…yeah. I saw people were excited for it arrive on Switch so to those who are, happy for ya. But this is a pass for me.
// Star Overdrive
Release Date:
April 10, 2025
Platforms:
Nintendo Switch | Steam
Description:
Set off on a high-speed Hoverboard adventure in Star Overdrive, where fast-paced action collides with the mysteries of a distant alien world.
After intercepting a cryptic distress signal, you, the protagonist Bios, find yourself stranded on an enigmatic planet called Cebete. Armed with your versatile Keytar and advanced Hoverboard, you’ll navigate diverse biomes, confront challenges, evolve your hidden powers, and uncover the mystery behind the disappearance of your beloved Nous. (Source: Steam)
My Thoughts:
I don’t really have any feelings about this one either way. It’s not really something I’d play but I’m also not put off by it.
// The Wandering Village
Release Date:
July 17, 2025
Platforms:
Nintendo Switch
Already available on: Xbox Series X&S | Steam
Description:
The Wandering Village is a city-building strategy game on the back of a giant, wandering creature. Build your settlement and form a symbiotic relationship with the colossus. Will you survive together in this hostile, yet beautiful post-apocalyptic world, contaminated by poisonous plants? (Source: Steam)
My Thoughts:
I don’t really have much to say about this one. I don’t care for city-building strategy games so this will likely be a pass, even with it having a nice art style.
// FANTASY LIFE i: The Girl Who Steals Time
Release Date:
May 21, 2025
Platforms:
Nintendo Switch | PS4 & PS5 | Xbox Series X&S | Steam
Description:
Step into this Slow-Life RPG where you can freely switch between 14 unique jobs, so called “Lives,” and enjoy a carefree life in a fantasy world. Fish, cook, shape the island to your liking, or team up with friends to battle monsters across the vast world. (Source: Steam)
My Thoughts:
I have been waiting for this game for a long time. I played Fantasy Life on my 3DS last year when I got COVID and loved it. It’s certainly more of a cozy RPG than most I’ve played. Fantasy Life i: The Girl Who Steals Time certainly seems more ambitious, and I’m here for it.
I’m not sure if I’ll get it for the Switch, though. I noticed some performance issues in the trailer above during the Direct, so I’ll likely be getting this on my PS5. If I do ever want to double dip though, there is some incentive as there is cross-save. I like the idea of being able to play on my PS5 during the day and then play on my Switch in handheld before bed. It may not be something I do right away, but it is something I’m considering especially after learning it’s possible.

Their stories gradually coalesce to form a single history. (Source: Steam)
My Thoughts:
This is another series I’ve yet to play but since it’s an RPG, I likely will at some point. So, while I’m not excited for this or anything, it’s still likely something I’ll check out.

My Thoughts:
I’m not really into puzzle games so this announcement doesn’t do anything for me. I am glad, however, it’s coming to major consoles, especially Monument Valley 3, since right now it’s only playable on mobile devices or through a Netflix subscription. If I ever want to check any of them out, I do have Netflix, but I don’t really see myself playing these. I do appreciate the art style!

Nintendo Switch | PS5 | Steam
Description:
Everybody’s favourite golf game series finally returns to the fairway! Hit the green with a variety of unique characters and courses in online and offline AND single and multiplayer modes! (Source: Steam)
My Thoughts:
I’ve never played any of the other EVERYBODY’S GOLF games. I barely played the Mario Golf game I got for my Switch. I doubt I’ll play this, but who knows. Maybe I will. I do like the character style for the player characters.

My Thoughts:
Not my type of game and the Marvel IP doesn’t do anything for me. It has a cool art style, though!
// Tomodachi Life: Living the Dream
Release Date:
2026
Platforms:
Nintendo Switch
Description:
The Tomodachi Life series is back with its first brand new entry in over ten years. Create your own Mii characters based on yourself, friends, family – anyone! – and watch them live their lives on an island out at sea. Get involved with their relationships and experience all the weird and wonderful ways these Mii characters interact. You may even drop in on their dreams! (Source: Nintendo)
My Thoughts:
I never played Tomodachi Life, so this announcement doesn’t excite me like I’m sure it is exciting many others. I’ve never been crazy about the way Miis look, which is likely why I never was interested in this series. Happy for those who enjoy the series–10 years is a long time to wait for a new entry.
And who knows, maybe I’ll check it out anyway.
// Nintendo Today!
Release Date:
March 27, 2025 (Today)
Platforms:
iOS | Android
Description:
A brand-new app that delivers Nintendo content to your smart devices. This smart-device app is like a daily calendar which delivers a variety of content including latest news, videos, and comics of your favourite Nintendo games and characters from select franchises. After the Nintendo Direct presentation about Nintendo Switch 2 on April 2, you’ll also find information about the Nintendo Switch 2 system directly on the app. Anyone with a Nintendo Account and compatible smart device can use the free app. (Source: Nintendo)
My Thoughts:
Honestly, a weird final announcement, but I have since checked out the app and I kind of dig it. I like that you can randomize what you see on there based on what franchise you’re into, and they’ve got some cool stuff on there like history about certain games and art. It may seem silly to most people since you can just get updates for things online, but I’m here for the cool factor. I also like that you can see Nintendo related events in the main calendar, too!
// Final Reactions
Overall, considering this is likely the original Switch’s last hurrah, I thought this was a strong Direct. We got some new releases for games that haven’t had new entries in many years, we got the virtual game card announcement, which will make playing games we own on secondary systems far easier than before in addition to being able to share games with through this system too! We also got more information about Metroid Prime 4: Beyond and Pokemon Legends Z-A. I can’t really complain at all about what was shown off today, even if there were some announcements I didn’t care for at all.
Out of everything that was announced, the games I’m most excited for and likely will play are:
- Dragon Quest I & II HD-2D Remake
- No Sleep for Kaname Date – From AI: THE SOMNIUM FILES
- RAIDOU Remastered: The Mystery of the Souless Army
- PATAPON 1 + 2 Replay
- Story of Seasons: Grand Bazaar
- Disney Villains Cursed Café
- Witchbrook
- Pokémon Legends Z-A
- FANTASY LIFE i: The Girl Who Steals Time
- SaGa Frontier 2 Remastered
And of course, I’m incredibly happy to hear about the virtual game card update coming in late April.
I’m happy to know that even with the Switch 2 coming, the original Switch still has a bit more in store for us!
Speaking of the Switch 2, stay tuned as we’ll bring you all the important information from the Switch 2 Direct happening next week on Wednesday, April 2, at 9 AM ET/6 AM PT.
Until next time!
