Metal Gear Solid Delta: Snake Eater Trailer Reaction
The trailer for Metal Gear Solid Delta: Snake Eater has leaked online ahead of the rumoured February State of Play from Sony. As an MGS outsider who knows literally nothing about the original Snake Eater, I thought this would be the perfect opportunity to react.
So here are my thoughts from a guy who only played MGS4 and was very confused about it.

This thing looks nuts. Of course, you have some small glimpses at the gameplay in here. The brief stealth section and what I assume is combat from a boss fight later on against a mech both look like Metal Gear Solid. But the majority of the trailer is focused o showing off the characters and what I assume are key moments from the original game. Enter the nuts factor.
There are freaks of all kids in here. What’s up with the old guy who can dislocate his eyeball while sniping? That can’t be healthy.

Then there’s the other guy with the superpower of Bees. That’s unusual! I’m curious why and how he’s doing that. Does he control bee pheromones? Is he magic? Is it bee telepathy?

This insanity juxtaposed against the very grounded, serious nature of Snake and the stealth based gameplay is very interesting. Maybe Snake isn’t even all that serious, but that is the vibe I get from the outside looking in.
It’s a tone that is very appealing to me, and certainly unlike anything else I can think of. Throw in the melodramatic and convoluted Metal Gear plot, and I’m beginning to see the big picture.

There are a lot of different characters in the trailer, and I look forward to learning how they relate to each other and how many are clones and children of one another. Also, I gotta know who this “boss” is everyone keeps bringing up.
I’m curious to see how consistently this strange tone is woven into the game. There are a handful of other weirdos in the trailer, so I assume it’s very present.
Visually I think the game looks great. My hope is that the game will maintain a little bit of it’s PS2 jank. Having never played the original I won’t be able to compare the feel of the games, but I feel like that’s a lot of personality you don’t want to leave on the cutting floor.

I’m really not a big stealth guy. It’s why I haven’t played too much of the series yet. But there’s enough other stuff that really appeals to me here to pique my interest.
Last but certainly not least, they got the freaking Ape Escape monkey in here? Sign me the hell up. Between the franchise representation in Astro Bot last year and now this, I’m loving seeing the little guys everywhere.

This trailer has pushed me much closer to a day one purchase on Metal Gear Solid Delta: Snake Eater when it drops on August 28, 2025 (which also leaked early).

I’m giving this the mind blown reaction. The amount of zany and insane stuff featured in here truly caught me off guard. I knew MGS was known for it’s convoluted plot of clones and snakes and bosses, but I didn’t know how weird it could be. The trailer looks great, and has totally re-charted my course with Metal Gear Solid Delta: Snake Eater.
