Because the State of Play is so close to MHW’s release, it makes sense it would be here. I didn’t need to be convinced since I enjoyed my time with the first beta, but what they showed off at least looks really cool. I also liked the monster they showed off in the first free content update. Looking forward to when the game releases in a few weeks! |

Okay, I’m giving it this reaction because I don’t think this game is really my kind of thing. That being said, when I went to go grab the trailer for this article, I watched it again. This one actually gets a level-up from the heart reaction for me. I was interested at the reveal during TGAs, but we got a bit more here. The main character is goofier than I expected him to be, and realizing the enemies are some sort of zombie-adjacent freaks is fun. It’s a weird tone that I wasn’t expecting, and paired with the gameplay we’ve seen I’m very interested in this Onimusha Way of the Sword. |

This one is piquing my interest because of the weird freaks (the enemies). Way of the Sword also has a slightly different tonal vibe from Samurai’s Destiny, it does come across a bit more serious but still has some of that goofy charm to it. After the trailer dropped, the Creative Director and multimedia artist for Q-Games, the studio making the game, spoke about how this game was a different spin on a shooter. Instead of using the gun to destroy, it creates the world. I’m not sure if I’ll actually play this game, but the idea behind it is unique enough to at least keep an eye on it. I only briefly played the PS4 version, so this does appeal to me, especially because of the very inexpensive upgrade to the PS5 version. I’ll wait to see what the reviews say, but I’m thinking I may pick this one up. Also, can we talk about the Remaster key art (pictured above)? It’s so pretty! |

This is very much the same as the Lies of P DLC. I can’t believe I’ve yet to play Stellar Blade, so this will just me more stuff for me to play through when I do. |

I don’t really have anything to say here. I haven’t played Stellar Blade, so this doesn’t do anything for me. Happy for those who have been waiting for the PC port, as I’m sure there are people who have been. That’s all I got for this one. |

I have PS+ Premium, so I’m always glad to see great games come to the service for both Extra and Premium. Really cool to see Lost Records: Bloom & Rage being added. We actually are in the process of playing it to review it right now, so please look forward to our review when it drops! I’m also happy to see Patapon 3 there. I was just talking with my friends and fellow GCR writers about how much I love and missed the game. Can’t wait to play it again! I haven’t played it since my PSP days. |

Shadowheart?? This game is definitely doing it for me. We truly are living in the 3D Character Action game renaissance. |

I can’t help but get Shadow of the Colossus vibes from this, with the immense size of some of the figures in the backgrounds in some of the shots. Even reading some of the descriptions for the game, you can scale these figures, better known as colossal knights, much like you do in Shadow of the Colossus. Combining that with slick combat and Jennifer English voicing one of the characters, this game has got my attention. I’ll be keeping an eye on it as it does look like something I will play. |

When this first popped up I wrote, “please let this be single player.” Thankfully, it is! We really need more single player FPS games these days. The sci-fi vibes and lore avaiable on the PS Blog sound a big generic, but if the gameplay is fun I may pick it up. |

I don’t really have much to say about this one. I don’t even remember the trailer and when I went back and watched it now, I must have spaced out or something. Yeah, this one isn’t for me. |

I don’t know about this one. Something about it just felt off. The world looked a little too empty and the story just didn’t really seem to be clicking. Also holy crap, every damn car in this trailer exploded. |

I did like that we got both a cinematic trailer and a gameplay trailer. I just don’t know if this is something I’d enjoy yet. Likewise, I’ll have to see more from this game before making a decision. For now, I’m not interested, but if reviews are good or something from a future trailer can sway me, I wouldn’t be against checking it out. |
// Saros

Release Date:
2026
Platforms:
PS5
Description:
Saros is an action game with the haunting story of a lost off-world colony on Carcosa under an ominous eclipse. You play as Arjun Devraj, performed by Rahul Kohli (Midnight Mass, The Fall of the House of Usher), a powerful Soltari Enforcer who will stop at nothing to find who he is looking for. Our goal is to create an emotional and powerful character study that explores the cost it takes to create a new future.
A key gameplay distinction between Saros and Returnal is permanent resources and progression making every death valuable. After every death you will face a changed world, but in Saros you will be able to choose and permanently upgrade your loadout from an evolving set of weapons and suit upgrades to “come back stronger” to overcome the challenges you face on Carcosa. This freaking thing has my name written all over it. I’ve been anxiously awaiting what Housemarque is doing next – I absolutely loved Returnal. They’re seemingly sticking to what they do best, only now they have Rahul Kohli as the star. The way they had the swirl of bullets reflected in his eye? Chefkiss. No notes. Day one. |
LF |

Very excited to see Rahul Kohli as the lead in this, as I love him as an actor. It’s one of the reasons I’m actually interested in the game. The other reason is that it sounds like you don’t lose your resources or progression in this one. The world also changes with each death. I like that you don’t have to keep starting from scratch–it’s one of the reasons I’m not a fan of the roguelike/roguelite genre. Saros feels more like my speed. I also need to know who the big guy pictured above is. His design is amazing, I’ll be keeping an eye on this one. |
// State of Play Final Reactions

I think this was a very solid State of Play. I got more out of it than I expected, that’s for sure. The Saros reveal definitely ended the things with a high note. Overall, I don’t know that there’s enough to bump it up to the top tier for me, but I had a good time watching it. If I have one takeaway, it’s this: We are truly living in a 3D Character Action game renaissance. |
LF |
![]() |
I actually thought this State of Play was really good. I may be very biased because I am very excited about the new Digimon game, but there were some new IPs, some gameplay for some games, and a good selection of games dropping on PS+ Extra and Premium. For a February Showcase, I’m not complaining. It’s also nice to know we’re finally getting more dedicated PS5 games. The transition from PS4 to PS5 has been very slow this generation, for a number of reasons. With this showcase, however, more than half the games are only coming to the PS5, Hopefully this is an indicator that games will be PS5 dedicated more and more. I saw Geoff Keighley’s usual post-showcase poll and a lot of people gave this State of Play a D. I went against the grain and gave it an A. And I stand by it. |
